Healthy Habits Challenge Day 3: Quiet Time

Welcome to Day 3 of the Healthy Habits Challenge!

 
How did it go moving your body yesterday? 
 
Today, did you…

  • DRINK your water?
  • MOVE your body for 7 min?

Today’s Scripture:

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” – Mark 1:35

I think one of the most important facets of a HEALTHY FREE LIFE is a morning quiet time with God. Would you agree?
 
You see, we are spirit beings wrapped in flesh. We cannot separate the two.
 
No matter how much kale we eat, if our spiritual life is not healthy, our body will not be truly healthy.
 
If we are not spending time with God upon waking – saying hello, acknowledging and asking for his presence in your life that day, giving him due praise, telling him you love him, thanking him for his presence and provision and new mercies, and asking him to guide your steps for the day – then we are missing out on His healing presence.
 
But then why don’t I do it every, every, every day? Do you struggle too?
 
It’s just like me telling you to exercise. Yeah, we all “KNOW” we are supposed to do it… and you would think that the fear of an early death would give us some motivation… but we STILL. DON’T. DO. IT.
 
And maybe sometimes we succeed… like the last 8 years when I’ve attempted to read my Bible in a year. And failed. It’s kind of like dieting. We go all in, succeed for awhile and then once I miss a day, I throw in the towel because I am “behind”.
 
Is that really what God desires of us? I believe He would much rather I spend 1-3 minutes glorifying Him and committing my ways to His plan than my stop-start attempts to read His Word and missing DAYS without experiencing Him.
 
So if this is something that you struggle with, too, – if you can relate to any of this, then I challenge you to take Today’s challenge seriously.
 
Lord, may today’s scripture encourage and inspire us to pattern our morning after Jesus’ example. And when we falter, pick us up, strengthen us, and remind us to come back to your throne.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: Pray – 1 Minute Morning Quiet Time

Today’s challenge, out of all, is the most important of all the Healthy Habits.
 
And I believe that Jesus gives us a pattern for how to incorporate this daily habit into our life.
 
So I would like to challenge you to 1 Minute of Morning Quiet Time with God.
 
Perhaps your morning will start like this…
 
Drink water.
 
Move your body.
 
Then pray.
 
A powerful Scripture to pray to God: Psalm 143:8
 
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
    for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life.”
 
And then listen.
 
I love how The Message Bible version interprets Psalm 143:8…
 
If you wake me each morning with the sound of your loving voice.
 
Listen for that voice, dear one.

 
You are more than welcome to select another verse should you feel led.
 
The key is to take that first early moment in our day and connect with God. Tune your heart into His.
 
Then, if you have time, study the Bible, pray, worship, journal, as the Spirit leads.
 
But not under pressure. As an offering to God.
 
Our daily time with God is not something to check off the list, it’s about a relationship with God, which is exactly what Jesus was seeking when he went off to that solitary place.
 
We need it more than the air that we breathe.

Action Steps:

  1. Today… if you have not yet spent time with God, then right now take 1 Minute to connect with God. Perhaps pray Psalm 143:8 (above).
     
  2. Then, going forward, I challenge you to spend 1 Minute of Quiet Time with God each morning. Ideally, after you drink water and move your body.
