I can SO relate to Paul’s lament in Romans 7:15. Can you relate too?
“I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” – Romans 7:15 (NIV)
It is often the battle of my soul and mind daily. How many times a day the voices in my head say…
If I COULD ONLY…
I WISH I DIDN’T…
I think that this angst is partly what fuels the setting goals & New Year’s resolutions. At least it is for me.
The conflict in our soul that we are not really living out the life we were meant to live. And if I am not in alignment with God’s will (Which I believe includes a healthy physical body – God’s Temple), then I am in fact committing sin.
So, we make resolutions.
To STOP doing something.
To START doing something.
To make something BETTER.
PAUL GOES ON TO SAY IN ROMANS 7 (MSG)…
17-20 But I need something more! For if I know the law but still can’t keep it, and if the power of sin within me keeps sabotaging my best intentions, I obviously need help!
I realize that I don’t have what it takes. I can will it, but I can’t do it. I decide to do good, but I don’t really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. My decisions, such as they are, don’t result in actions. Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time.
21-23 It happens so regularly that it’s predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I truly delight in God’s commands, but it’s pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge.
24 I’ve tried everything and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn’t that the real question?
25 The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.
MAYBE WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION. WE NEED MORE OF JESUS IN 2018.

It is NOT just about Eating Better and Exercising More. UGH… If it were only so easy.
It’s about so much more. It’s is about our Walk with God as well. We need Jesus to empower us to with His strength to take the steps we need to so that we can begin to remove the physical burdens (excess weight, exhaustion, disease) from our life so we can ABUNDANTLY live the life He has given us.
The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ CAN and DOES.(v.25)
